Hello Family and Friends,
This weeks News!
Busy week. Lots of traveling to here and there, and lots of stress as per the usual. But I am surprisingly having fun all the same. This week was our turn for stake conference. Our stake is called Miraflores and our little branch from Morropon is way far away from the stake center. The members, as faithful and wonderful as they are, sacrificed much of their time and money to take the bus early in the morning to attend conference. You can only imagine how happy I was to see that in the crowd of maybe 400 or 500 Latter Day Saints, there seated a little in the back was our little family of 20 or so members who made the effort to come and partake of the blessings of stake conference. These are very good people amd in spite of our poor circumstances, they continue to inspire me.
One member in particular really caught me by surprise. His name is Alan. He owns a restaurant in our area and he is known for being a workaholic. He is a good man, but never takes time off work to be with his family or close up on sunday. It has been a struggle for us to try and show him how keeping the sabbath day holy would bless his family in spite of their large financial struggles. They, like many of the members, are humble people and I can easily see why he works so tirelessly. Nonetheless, we pushed and pushed to get him to attend. He told us that he “would see”. We didnt see him after that but come Sunday, there he was with his white shirt and tie and all the family together. What made it more amazing, is that later that day we passed by his restaurant and it was closed up. No one was working. I had never been so happy. Alan never closes his restaurant. not even on sundays. But finally he did, and I know he will be blessed for it. Little things like this and other miracles are what keep me going out here in this difficult area. I am incredibly grateful that the Lord extended his hand and touched the heart of this faithful brother.
Fun news, theyre opening up another area in Morropon. We are getting 2 sister missionaries to lend us a hand. The branch is incredibly excited as are we. These sisters could be what we need to reach the heart of the people here because obviously, they are much prettier than we are. So we will see how that goes.
Thats about it for this week. I will be wrapping up 9 months fairly soon can you believe it because I sure can’t.
